The Wisdom of The Tower

I love the Tower card. I’m grateful when it shows up in a reading for myself or a client it shows an opportunity for growth and it isn’t confronting to look at? The essence of the meaning of the card is beautifully depicted in most decks I’ve viewed and for me personally its a cherished one out the twenty two major arcana cards.

The Tower is usually seen as the materialistic card out of the 22 major arcana. Really what has happened is life has been created on an unstable foundation of fear and unresolved emotions and the ‘picture’ of our life is exactly that its a picture lacking authentic essence so when the Tower shows up in a reading be sure to know some external influence (usually) will rattle the foundation of life so whats not real will fall away so we can have the opportunity to rebuild life Β from our authentic self.

We have externalised our lack of self love whether it is material possessions, hiding our worth behind a job label or becoming dependent on relationships around us to fill the void of our low self esteem and our lack of self belief. Usually always this is the case and when lightning strikes in our world and what isn’t real falls around us it is an opportunity to go deep and look at the wounds that are in need of healing so we can love ourself wholly.

It’s the opportunity for emotional and spiritual growth and I associate the Tower with serpent medicine a transmutation of energy on every level; physical, emotional, spiritual and mental. Yep it’s a challenge and a call from your higher self that it’s time to go deeper and see life with clearer eyes.

If the Tower seems to be an ongoing theme in cards I recommend taking some reflective time to go deep and to really be honest with yourself and see what your intuitive self is trying to tell you because it’s unavoidable the Tower will fall anyway so we can really grasp the learning of what we need to know.

Ask yourself where are you not being true to you? …. xxx

Tea & Tarot with Darker Themed Decks

I had a few people ask me about darker themed decks in the last week. I’m a lover of darker themed decks if theres one out there that calls to me you’ll be sure to know I’ll own it. The questions I get asked a lot is why I work with them so much and really just why? πŸ™‚

Darker themed decks take me deeper than those that aren’t. To be honest I see more in the dark. I know the learning and wisdom that comes from confronting my shadow self and I feel very comfortable being honest with myself. That’s not to say that its a comfy ride but its necessary and I know this is where balance and embracing our humanity lies.

I know many people don’t understand that especially when we live in a world that constantly drives us to be happy and high on life all the time which is one of the many reasons why people feel so uncertain of who they are. The constant comparison to others and wondering if they’re ok because they’re not happy all the time but fuck who is!

Darker themed tarot art takes me deep into myself so I can become aware of things that I may not have known before, it also takes me deep to retrieve the answers I’m searching for. Being a medium when you receive visions they come from darkness. The inner screen is black, the peaceful nothingness so there’s a deep comfort in that for me and also when I scry darker colours I SEE.

It’s also interesting watching clients and friends reactions to darker themed tarots and I have to say I really enjoy that factor also because it instantly gives you a glimpse of their inner world by the way they react to the art. That’s an awesome conversation starter itself and without even reading the cards discussing the art work and what feelings it provokes is a mini self exploration right there. So there you go a very short and sweet post for those that have emailed and messaged me this week hope thats food for thought and why I’m drawn to darkness so much πŸ˜‰ it comes from a place of deep appreciation.

Reflection with the Four of Pentacles

The major arcana cards aren’t the only cards we can heal with, every card in the tarot deck is a source of healing and growth. I decided to write about the 4 of pentacles tonight and there’s reasons for that which I will share in a moment. Please know with each card I write about it goes a lot deeper but I can’t share it all in one post but can share different views, journal and healing prompts so we can ‘own the cards’.

One of the few things the Four of Pentacles symbolise is selfishness, someone dependent on materialism, someone using materialism to protect themselves from hurt even if it may come across as financial pain beneath that the wound its always emotional. It can also symbolise a healthy need to be selfish, creating a structure for self after chaos and what I was reflecting on that drove me to share was the massive amounts of selfishness nowadays.

I believe reflecting upon this card can give us an insight on where we stand within ourselves. Lets begin with materialism. Now this is an interesting subject to raise because it brings up deep emotions and misunderstandings between people. Myself personally I get off on simplicity. I live pretty simply and have been ridiculed for it in the past by many people and have been questioned by many people for the way I live. Owning the most expensive car or wearing certain labels I have no interest in and I’m not saying those that do that its a bad thing its just not my bag it never has been.

So if we look at the Rider Waite image of a man holding onto the pentacle across his heart symbolising self protection and also blocking the flow of connection with others. When we hold onto material things too much we do block our authentic flow. The pentacle on the crown chakra is blocking his connection to spirit and sharing with others, the two pentacles beneath his feet can symbolise lack of connection to the Earth and a lack of grounding and not seeing the situation with clarity which is very much the case if we hold onto materialism too tightly and can also be the case for not honouring it either.

So there’s a healthy medium somewhere between. I think all of us have some emotional issue with money and materialism and we all have differing opinions. In readings this also can be someone that is too fearful to open their heart to another regardless I see this as needing to open the heart and spirit flow and connect with Mother EarthΒ because I believe if we open to all the above the fear of materialism will come up now and again for sure thats pretty healthy and normal at times living in a physical world BUT we also open the authentic flow of true abundance in every area of our life byΒ learning to trust ourselves and let go.

Journal Prompts: Four of Pentacles

Having the card in front of you with a journal and pen begin with this question: Do you nourish your spirit well? On all levels physical, emotional and spiritual. Write your response and be as honest as you can. Write the whys and why nots and what changes you can make to achieve healthy nourishment. Also expand on this and go deeper by exploring what are the emotional triggers to treat yourself in ways where you are lacking. This is very healing it also makes you aware of the emotional triggers in the future which is really important to know.

Do you live with an open heart? If not why not? and if so can do you really feel you’re in full flow and if not where do you feel you can improve to expand your heart even more so?

Next lets move to the crown chakra. Do you have a strong connection with spirit? Do you enjoy sharing with others whether its materialism or emotional, where do you feel you can improve on all the above?

Lastly lets look at your relationship with our Mother. Our relationship with our Mother Earth is just as an important with our relationship with ourselves without both there’s no balance.

Do you have a relationship with the Earth? Do you spend time listening to Her when you connect with nature? How often do you connect with nature? And if you don’t why not? What fears do you have connecting with the planet that gives so much?

How do you feel when you do connect with nature? Do you feel emotional? Clear? Uncertain? Joyous? Write down your response.

We have just covered by looking at the image the main areas where he’s blocked in the card and opened that doorway to self discovery and healing πŸ™‚ not bad huh?

We can take the Four of Pentacles much deeper and we can use this card for a check in to see where we are lacking and where we are growing. Pretty cool hey? πŸ™‚ One of the thousand reasons why I love tarot so much.

I also quickly want to mention I haven’t posted last week because I’m knee deep creating two new websites one of them is a new website for my art annnnddddd I’m currently creating my own tarot deck which I will share at some point… πŸ™‚ xoxo

Responding to the Cards: Intuitive and Emotional Responses

I love getting into the heavy with this topic with passionate beginner and intermediate tarot readers. It’s exciting to watch someone connect and strengthen the relationship with self. It’s precious and beautiful. Although this is a topic widely discussed in depth and there’s a real need for it because distinguishing what is an emotional or intuitive response is important as a reader.

First I have to mention that reading for yourself will bring up emotion whether you’re a beginner or an advanced reader when you’re enquiring about an experience or situation that is close to the heart emotion will be stirred thats a completely normal response. I have to say if you’re feeling emotional I wouldn’t recommend pulling out the tarot because as we know the tarot is a soul mirror and some images will provoke more emotion and if you’re already feeling vulnerable and overwhelmed please be gentle and put the cards away.

Self nurture and care comes first. Journalling how you feel, a gentle creative space, good food, warm blankets, hot tea and a good movie is whats needed as we release some of the heavier and raw feelings then slowly when it feels right the cards can come out and speak.

I would actually recommend first when we are healing but still seeking clarity is to pull out an oracle deck that resonates with you. One thats clear and nurturing. A quick four card spread to support you to receive clarity on the situation can slowly begin shifting our perspective which opens the door for a little more healing.

The Difference between Intuitive & Emotional Responses

This one can be a little tricky and one I worked hard on because my intuition was so strong I received not only feelings but visions and I actually couldn’t tell what was a vision or imagination Β but when we practice every day we slowly see and feel the difference.

Feelings: strong emotional responses can also be intuitive and that is something we need to work on personally. You can be guided through this by someone experienced in this area but no one can teach you that only you can be aware of it by listening to yourself, really listening every day. The more we practice the clearer it becomes.

For example: meeting someone for the first time but you feel a little uneasy. That’s not say they’re a bad person it could be they are carrying a little more emotion than usual, they could be stressed, they could be stuck in a conditioned emotional pattern and the uncomfortable feeling you’re feeling is an intuitive response that you may not get on with one another down the track but sometimes we push away that intuitive response because superficially ‘things look good’…. noticed I said ‘look good’.

Intuition is the unheard language but if we choose to make it our primary language and really pay attention to what we feel it becomes our first line of communication and cuts through the illusion of the superficial of ‘things looking good’ really it cuts through the bullshit and we see the truth of how things really are.

When our intuitive responses become emotional its our authentic self really trying to get our attention that ‘something isn’t right’ and you’re not paying attention and the more you ignore this feeling it grows and you become more emotional and reactive till something gives.

Very clearly intuition is a knowing. There’s no doubt when we receive something ‘we just know’. It comes from a sacred place, our higher consciousness. Be prepared to feel emotional when we learn to read the cards this is just our emotional patterns that we are slowly becoming aware of and pulling it off from our all seeing eye. If we don’t raise awareness around our emotional body it becomes blocked and doesn’t flow and we view the world through veils of feelings so we aren’t seeing with clear eyes.

I wish I could share more in this post but it is a very sensitive and complex subject one that needs to be shared in person and yes I will be offering this in the future but for now to really get to know the difference is honestly journal what you feel from reading the cards. Pay attention to what you feeling with people and situations and journal that too because when you begin to log this down then you can see for yourself a pattern forming with what is intuition and what makes you emotional and why. Very powerful and one that we need to master on this journey… xxx

Renewed Stability with the 8 of Cups

We all have our favourite cards in tarot one of mine is the 8 of Cups.
The image in most decks gives me a sense of peace and a sense of relief when it shows in my own personal readings.
In most decks it usually holds a similar feeling to the Hermit, a time of listening, of knowing, and retreat.
The 8 of Cups usually means letting go of a stable situation.
We have outgrown the situation and it’s time to let go and leave.
Though in most decks the 8 of Cups holds a feeling of going within and I also see this as an honouring of the grieving process of letting go. Β It’s a beautiful reminder to honour the change itself. Too often we don’t allow our inner world to catch up to the physical process and we find ourselves emotionally overwhelmed a few weeks after.

Inner explorations and deepening our understanding of the 8 of Cups can clearly begin with these questions:

* What emotions surface when you think about letting go of a person or a situation that you feel connected to?
Which two emotions are most dominantly felt and why?
Go deeper with this journal as much as you can really feel, listen and observe the conditioned pattern that’s triggered.

* How do you feel living your true potential? What feelings does this question trigger both positive and negative?
This may sound like a strange question but you’ll be surprised how many people fear their power and undervalue their self worth.

* What do you consider a stable life and why? Does your stability impinge on your spiritual and emotional freedom? And if so how and what can you change about this?

So you see the 8 of Cups isn’t very scary πŸ™‚ though some people may consider it so it actually supports you to become more stable within yourself and to look within for stability and emotionally detach from outcomes and expectations supporting us to have greater freedom within.

The Myth

When I mention ‘shadow work’ most people don’t like to speak about it they avoid it at all costs even those that work in areas supporting others to heal. Strange as it may seem but us humans don’t like to feel uncomfortable which I get BUT it’s our make up, we’re humans we feel everything and avoidance doesn’t work it just makes it worse.

I understand we’ve all been conditioned to oppress how we feel thats our inner work, our golden box of wisdom right there that needs to be handled with loving care but the box needs to be opened and remain open if we want to experience true happiness. This myth that we have to be happy all the time seems to be a strong belief still for many people but please its not real far from it.

I know it may seem weird to explain the duality of life, the universe, the planet, everything but we have ‘evolved’ as people to believe this myth and you know if you have oppressed your shadow side, the heavier emotions for 30 plus years expect to feel like shit often from there on. Why? because now you’ve awakened from the myth and although you may feel your world is spiralling out of control and in some ways it may be but thats good it means the lid is off and the drought of endless unhappy ever afters will eventually end and you now have a chance to actually receive that happy ever after because you are ready to explore, learn and love that side of you that needed a voice for so very long.

Yeah its not easy it will challenge you and thats awesome because that my friend is reality. All we have to do is lay out the major arcana cards to see life isn’t all light and fluff because it isn’t and that big beautiful box of darkness you’ve been avoiding for so long will become one of your closest friends and you will not only appreciate this part of yourself but you Β will also learn to love it because within the darkness you will find yourself and attributes that you thought you never had.

Trusting your way through the darkness IS the journey of The Fool. We don’t know where the journey is going to take us because an authentic journey doesn’t consist with the defined plans it has twists and turns, unexpected surprises good and bad, it has bliss and so much Β joy and times where shit will hit the fan but you’ll be ok. Reality bites but see it as a love bite πŸ™‚ you’ll learn to appreciate and love the journey as hard as it can be at times.

Now you’re probably wondering what has this got to do with the tarot? Everything. It’s this myth that life is meant to be all light and fluffy clouds because it isn’t and if you’re drawn to study the tarot you have to know that you will be confronted with your shadow self. The tarot journey is deep, soulful and any illusions will be confronted. I’m not saying this to scare anyone I’m saying this because its the truth and its reality and nowadays so many people are doing everything they can to not live in reality they are handing their responsibility over to other people, placing their trust in others instead of themselves the tarot journey will will bring you back into your body and you will begin to trust yourself again.

I know so many people and have spoken to many students when it gets challenging they stop studying. I can understand we all need breaks at times but if you’ve been confronted with a juicy bit of your shadow self PLEASE keep going. You are standing on the edge just like The Fool and you are about to embark a soul journey that is necessary for your healing and growth as a person. Within this journey you will discover a beautiful piece of yourself that you may have never met before and usually always that is the truth.

Journal people lots. Move the energy. Create, spend time in nature and exercise and repeat as many times till you feel things are beginning to shift and clarity is received.

This brings me to the next post with the 8 of Cups which I will post tomorrow… xxx

The Tower - Silver Era Tarot
The Tower – Silver Era Tarot

Earthing the Tarot

The tarot system is a 78 card system to assist and support the complexities of our inner world. The major arcana represents the journey of spirit. Many say ego and yes thats true but for me I’ll use the word spirit so we can say it is a spiritual journey. The minor arcana consists of four suits representing the the four elements: earth- pentacles, water-cups, fire-wands and air-swords. In some decks the wands represent air and the swords represents fire.

So if we can simplify it as the major arcana as our deep healing soulful transitions in life where the spirit is challenged to grow and the minor arcana is how we manage, explore and express our energy throughout the journey.

The tarot is a system to deepen and heal our relationship with self…and to enrich our life but if we really want to understand and own the cards we must earth the tarot system. If we can see the major arcana as our deep spiritual transitions we can then simplify the major arcana by understanding the minor arcana as the four elements earth, air, fire and water.

To own the cards and ourselves, we must explore our relationships with the four elements and see how these relationships affect our inner and outer worlds. To do this we must connect with the Earth. The deeper we go the more wisdom we unearth and the more we heal our wounded self the clearer the channel we have to our divine self and our intuition this is how we begin reading the cards with our intuition. The intuition is the language of the divine self.

Very briefly (I will touch on this further in my book and course), fire when its controlled is useful. Think about the pot belly fires in our homes, candle light now think of the Ace of Wands… so now lets jump to a house or bush fire and now think of the 10 of wands. See the wands as energy, life force, passion. When our passion, energy, life force is channelled we create magic, healing but if it isn’t think of how we waste and deplete our energy like the 10 of Wands.

If we truly want to understand the fire element spend time with it..really. Meditate in candle light. Watching the flame how does it make you feel? How do you feel about spending time in the sun? What part of the day do you enjoy the most and why? How do you feel sitting around a fire? What feelings does it provoke and why? When you stare into the flames does it relax you or make you feel unsettled? Explore your feelings and your relationship with fire go deep with it, know it. Then explore your energy levels. Observe when you feel the most energised, what switches you on, what you’re passionate about and what depletes your energy and why.

If we look at The Magician in traditional decks he has the tools in front of him: the sword, wand, cup and pentacle now think of the tools that usually sit on a witches altar which represents the four elements. Yes there’s a link here which I will go further into in my course and book which I have to say I can’t way to share πŸ™‚

What I leave you with is start seeing the four suits as the four elements of the Earth and starting making the connection to each one of them then we’ll slowly move into the minor arcana.
