Business or Personal Journalling with the Tarot

I’m currently on holidays and placed myself on an artist retreat because I’m just feeling a lot of new energy and creations wanting to come through and part of this is a hell of a lot of writing. We can all relate when when we want to get the creative juices flowing or want to shift some emotions we’ve been caught on and what has always helped me is journalling or painting with the tarot.

Yes painting! There are times when I’m sitting at the easel and I just feel stuck something is wanting to come through and I can feel it strongly but something emotional is also wanting my presence and with two very intense energies you can just imagine it’s about now I want to fucken scream! πŸ˜€

What always helps is pulling out a tarot deck that evokes a lot of emotion and for me two decks always cuts through it, my beloved Mary El Tarot and the Tarot of the Vampyres.

Tarot of the Vampyres

I’m a lover of darker themed decks to me they speak the truth of whats actually happening within the seer/seeker and in any situation questioned. There’s no fluff and I feel nothing is missed it gets to the point which is what I want. So if I’m feeling blocked when I paint one of these decks will make a show and I will shuffle and pull a few cards out till I can really feel my emotions peaking and then I bring that to the canvas occasionally glancing at the spread to keep things moving. It always works.

Journalling whether it’s personal or business, same deal. Don’t get caught on asking the cards anything just shuffle and pull cards out. We don’t want to go into interpretation when we are already feeling a lot just keep pulling cards and allow yourself to get lost in the images and let them speak to you. Have them in front of you while you write. Just write don’t judge or question it just allow whatever wants to come through you. I do this both personally and for business. Yep πŸ˜€ I use the tarot to create business ideas always and I just keep writing and the most amazing creations come through whether its pen or paint.

The Mary El Tarot

It’s here I want to say that if you don’t own a darker themed deck it really is worth the investment emotionally and spiritually to purchase one that speaks to you. You certainly can do this exercise with a lighter themed deck but I truly feel there’s something about the darker decks that take you in deep and that’s what we ultimately want is to deepen our relationship with self, this is what the journey’s all about.

If you give this a go let me know I would be interested to hear about your experience. xxxx

Tea & Tarot with Darker Themed Decks

I had a few people ask me about darker themed decks in the last week. I’m a lover of darker themed decks if theres one out there that calls to me you’ll be sure to know I’ll own it. The questions I get asked a lot is why I work with them so much and really just why? πŸ™‚

Darker themed decks take me deeper than those that aren’t. To be honest I see more in the dark. I know the learning and wisdom that comes from confronting my shadow self and I feel very comfortable being honest with myself. That’s not to say that its a comfy ride but its necessary and I know this is where balance and embracing our humanity lies.

I know many people don’t understand that especially when we live in a world that constantly drives us to be happy and high on life all the time which is one of the many reasons why people feel so uncertain of who they are. The constant comparison to others and wondering if they’re ok because they’re not happy all the time but fuck who is!

Darker themed tarot art takes me deep into myself so I can become aware of things that I may not have known before, it also takes me deep to retrieve the answers I’m searching for. Being a medium when you receive visions they come from darkness. The inner screen is black, the peaceful nothingness so there’s a deep comfort in that for me and also when I scry darker colours I SEE.

It’s also interesting watching clients and friends reactions to darker themed tarots and I have to say I really enjoy that factor also because it instantly gives you a glimpse of their inner world by the way they react to the art. That’s an awesome conversation starter itself and without even reading the cards discussing the art work and what feelings it provokes is a mini self exploration right there. So there you go a very short and sweet post for those that have emailed and messaged me this week hope thats food for thought and why I’m drawn to darkness so much πŸ˜‰ it comes from a place of deep appreciation.

Responding to the Cards: Intuitive and Emotional Responses

I love getting into the heavy with this topic with passionate beginner and intermediate tarot readers. It’s exciting to watch someone connect and strengthen the relationship with self. It’s precious and beautiful. Although this is a topic widely discussed in depth and there’s a real need for it because distinguishing what is an emotional or intuitive response is important as a reader.

First I have to mention that reading for yourself will bring up emotion whether you’re a beginner or an advanced reader when you’re enquiring about an experience or situation that is close to the heart emotion will be stirred thats a completely normal response. I have to say if you’re feeling emotional I wouldn’t recommend pulling out the tarot because as we know the tarot is a soul mirror and some images will provoke more emotion and if you’re already feeling vulnerable and overwhelmed please be gentle and put the cards away.

Self nurture and care comes first. Journalling how you feel, a gentle creative space, good food, warm blankets, hot tea and a good movie is whats needed as we release some of the heavier and raw feelings then slowly when it feels right the cards can come out and speak.

I would actually recommend first when we are healing but still seeking clarity is to pull out an oracle deck that resonates with you. One thats clear and nurturing. A quick four card spread to support you to receive clarity on the situation can slowly begin shifting our perspective which opens the door for a little more healing.

The Difference between Intuitive & Emotional Responses

This one can be a little tricky and one I worked hard on because my intuition was so strong I received not only feelings but visions and I actually couldn’t tell what was a vision or imagination Β but when we practice every day we slowly see and feel the difference.

Feelings: strong emotional responses can also be intuitive and that is something we need to work on personally. You can be guided through this by someone experienced in this area but no one can teach you that only you can be aware of it by listening to yourself, really listening every day. The more we practice the clearer it becomes.

For example: meeting someone for the first time but you feel a little uneasy. That’s not say they’re a bad person it could be they are carrying a little more emotion than usual, they could be stressed, they could be stuck in a conditioned emotional pattern and the uncomfortable feeling you’re feeling is an intuitive response that you may not get on with one another down the track but sometimes we push away that intuitive response because superficially ‘things look good’…. noticed I said ‘look good’.

Intuition is the unheard language but if we choose to make it our primary language and really pay attention to what we feel it becomes our first line of communication and cuts through the illusion of the superficial of ‘things looking good’ really it cuts through the bullshit and we see the truth of how things really are.

When our intuitive responses become emotional its our authentic self really trying to get our attention that ‘something isn’t right’ and you’re not paying attention and the more you ignore this feeling it grows and you become more emotional and reactive till something gives.

Very clearly intuition is a knowing. There’s no doubt when we receive something ‘we just know’. It comes from a sacred place, our higher consciousness. Be prepared to feel emotional when we learn to read the cards this is just our emotional patterns that we are slowly becoming aware of and pulling it off from our all seeing eye. If we don’t raise awareness around our emotional body it becomes blocked and doesn’t flow and we view the world through veils of feelings so we aren’t seeing with clear eyes.

I wish I could share more in this post but it is a very sensitive and complex subject one that needs to be shared in person and yes I will be offering this in the future but for now to really get to know the difference is honestly journal what you feel from reading the cards. Pay attention to what you feeling with people and situations and journal that too because when you begin to log this down then you can see for yourself a pattern forming with what is intuition and what makes you emotional and why. Very powerful and one that we need to master on this journey… xxx

Renewed Stability with the 8 of Cups

We all have our favourite cards in tarot one of mine is the 8 of Cups.
The image in most decks gives me a sense of peace and a sense of relief when it shows in my own personal readings.
In most decks it usually holds a similar feeling to the Hermit, a time of listening, of knowing, and retreat.
The 8 of Cups usually means letting go of a stable situation.
We have outgrown the situation and it’s time to let go and leave.
Though in most decks the 8 of Cups holds a feeling of going within and I also see this as an honouring of the grieving process of letting go. Β It’s a beautiful reminder to honour the change itself. Too often we don’t allow our inner world to catch up to the physical process and we find ourselves emotionally overwhelmed a few weeks after.

Inner explorations and deepening our understanding of the 8 of Cups can clearly begin with these questions:

* What emotions surface when you think about letting go of a person or a situation that you feel connected to?
Which two emotions are most dominantly felt and why?
Go deeper with this journal as much as you can really feel, listen and observe the conditioned pattern that’s triggered.

* How do you feel living your true potential? What feelings does this question trigger both positive and negative?
This may sound like a strange question but you’ll be surprised how many people fear their power and undervalue their self worth.

* What do you consider a stable life and why? Does your stability impinge on your spiritual and emotional freedom? And if so how and what can you change about this?

So you see the 8 of Cups isn’t very scary πŸ™‚ though some people may consider it so it actually supports you to become more stable within yourself and to look within for stability and emotionally detach from outcomes and expectations supporting us to have greater freedom within.

Earthing the Tarot

The tarot system is a 78 card system to assist and support the complexities of our inner world. The major arcana represents the journey of spirit. Many say ego and yes thats true but for me I’ll use the word spirit so we can say it is a spiritual journey. The minor arcana consists of four suits representing the the four elements: earth- pentacles, water-cups, fire-wands and air-swords. In some decks the wands represent air and the swords represents fire.

So if we can simplify it as the major arcana as our deep healing soulful transitions in life where the spirit is challenged to grow and the minor arcana is how we manage, explore and express our energy throughout the journey.

The tarot is a system to deepen and heal our relationship with self…and to enrich our life but if we really want to understand and own the cards we must earth the tarot system. If we can see the major arcana as our deep spiritual transitions we can then simplify the major arcana by understanding the minor arcana as the four elements earth, air, fire and water.

To own the cards and ourselves, we must explore our relationships with the four elements and see how these relationships affect our inner and outer worlds. To do this we must connect with the Earth. The deeper we go the more wisdom we unearth and the more we heal our wounded self the clearer the channel we have to our divine self and our intuition this is how we begin reading the cards with our intuition. The intuition is the language of the divine self.

Very briefly (I will touch on this further in my book and course), fire when its controlled is useful. Think about the pot belly fires in our homes, candle light now think of the Ace of Wands… so now lets jump to a house or bush fire and now think of the 10 of wands. See the wands as energy, life force, passion. When our passion, energy, life force is channelled we create magic, healing but if it isn’t think of how we waste and deplete our energy like the 10 of Wands.

If we truly want to understand the fire element spend time with it..really. Meditate in candle light. Watching the flame how does it make you feel? How do you feel about spending time in the sun? What part of the day do you enjoy the most and why? How do you feel sitting around a fire? What feelings does it provoke and why? When you stare into the flames does it relax you or make you feel unsettled? Explore your feelings and your relationship with fire go deep with it, know it. Then explore your energy levels. Observe when you feel the most energised, what switches you on, what you’re passionate about and what depletes your energy and why.

If we look at The Magician in traditional decks he has the tools in front of him: the sword, wand, cup and pentacle now think of the tools that usually sit on a witches altar which represents the four elements. Yes there’s a link here which I will go further into in my course and book which I have to say I can’t way to share πŸ™‚

What I leave you with is start seeing the four suits as the four elements of the Earth and starting making the connection to each one of them then we’ll slowly move into the minor arcana.

Moving Through Stagnation with the Tarot

We have all been there. That place where nothing seems to be moving. Life becomes routine with no spark and the only feelings that seem to be felt is major frustration, anger, sadness, boredom and sometimes grief.

Every option we look at doesn’t feel right, everything we do doesn’t feel right and the only thing we want is solitude, rest and a good cry.
Firstly I have to say don’t be too quick to move from this space.
Sounds strange I know but feeling these feelings and being overwhelmed with ‘I’ve had enough’ also will move you to create change.
Having said that lets look at how we can shift things internally using the tarot.

Let’s begin at looking at a self nurturing routine to support you through this space.
It’s just so easy to convince yourself and fall victim to the overwhelm and make excuses such as, ‘I can’t stop there’s things that need doing.’
That’s a good possibility but there will also be many pockets of time where you can prioritise because doing the floors and folding laundry can wait for as long as it needs because YOU my friend are priority.

Next create a self nurturing routine and stick to it.
Commitment to Self is a must.
The two primary relationships that will always nurture, love and feed your soul is the one you have with yourself and Mother Earth.
These are the two primary relationships that need to always be on top of your list if they aren’t there will be no balance.
I understand when overwhelm hits you want nothing more than to stare at the floor but a lot of the time it doesn’t feed your soul.
Not saying don’t do this I’m saying put in place things that make you feel good and the small things count.
Such as: clean sheets, buying flowers, rearranging and cleaning your altar or sacred space, purchasing something small that means something to you, spending time in nature, eating clean, drinking more water, burning incense, lighting candles, drinking your favourite tea, spending time in the garden, painting, writing… as an example.

It’s really important to invest in you and it’s also important to take time to explore your inner world because it’s a very big part of why you feel this way.
So time to get the cards out and your journal.
Let’s pull out some Major Arcana cards that can support you to move forward.

The Hermit

What we need more than anything in this space is solitude and to connect with the light within.
It’s times like this our light doesn’t feel strong so we need to strengthen it by doing that we need to connect with it.
So pull out your journal and have The Hermit card in front of you and journal the answers to these questions:

* Have I had enough time on my own to feel and reflect on where I am? If not, why not?

* What feelings am I avoiding to feel at present and why?

* What am I afraid of seeing or accepting about my current situation?
Once you have identified that then ask yourself:

* What small steps can I commit to create change about my current situation?
Once you have written that then write out a loose future plan of where you would like to be.
I say loose because I don’t want you feeling any pressure to commit to this long term plan but a focus point of moving you from your current situation.

* Please give yourself time to process your answers don’t feel you have to answer all of this in one sitting.
Give yourself time to breathe and fall into what you have uncovered. *

Very few people like the Death card in the tarot but it’s one of my favs.
In order for new life bloom we need to put the old to rest once and for all.
So placing the Death card in front of you and using it as a focus of contemplation the only question I want you to contemplate and journal on is this:

* Being completely honest, what do I need to let go of completely to move forward to the next stage of my life?

Take your time and give yourself time to process your answer.

And finally pull out the card Judgement. Place it in front of you and while you focus on the card begin reflecting on this question and answer it intuitively:

* What does my soul want me to hear?

Meditate on this answer and journal it.
Once you’ve gathered all your answers please finish off on meditating on The Empress card.
Hold the image in your minds eye, burn some floral incense and burn a candle whilst meditating and envision yourself loved, nurtured, whole and at ease with yourself.
Stay in the meditation as long as you need and repeat if needed.

Take this post and use it to love you.
The tarot is an amazing system to heal and get to know our inner world.
It should be part of our self nourishing practice. Xxx

Shadow Work with The DevilΒ

The Devil

Before I choose the card for today I firstly would like to share working with The Devil card at present as the energies grow leading up to Samhain/Beltaine and the Scorpio full moon, would be ideal to move through any growing concerns, uncertainties, frustrations or any strong emotions that may have surfaced.
Usually with strong emotion there is some expectation to a hoped outcome or a wish that things could be different and our frustration grows because things just aren’t flowing the way we would like them to and we hold onto a belief that is creating chaos in our life.
Shadow Work with The Devil
* You will need a journal and pen for this exercise. *
First identify the strongest most uncomfortable feeling or a feeling that is causing you to be more ungrounded than usual.
Describe these feelings in full detail be completely honest with yourself and don’t hold back.
Listen and feel for anything else that would like to be expressed within this space.
Identify what has triggered you to feel this way and if you’re unsure retrace when you first began feeling this way.
Was it something that someone said a week ago? Was it some news you heard about and your conditioned reaction convinced you ‘that it doesn’t bother you’?
Is it a growing unsettled feeling in your work aspect?
Whatever it is it’s important to reflect on when you began feeling this way.
Once you’ve identified when it began begin writing how it made you feel and why.
What is it that you wanted to express at the time but your conditioned reaction held you back? or the situation didn’t allow for it?
What fears did this experience trigger?
The most important part of this exercise is identifying your fears.
Once you’ve identified your fears write about them.
The reason why writing helps it’s a space just for you where you can be completely honest and explore them in a safe space.
It’s also important to express and understand how we truly feel because it’s unexpressed unresolved emotion which knocks us off our centre.
Expression/action is everything when we know how we truly feel.
Once we’ve identified where it began, what we wanted to express but didn’t, what conditioned behaviours held us back by understanding our fears we MUST give ourselves some quiet space to feel the feelings that were raised.
Give yourself more time for reflection.
We must give these feelings attention (awareness) so they can pass through our energetic bodies.
Once we have we must ask another important question to empower ourselves through this experience:
What action do I need to take to empower my expression through this experience?
In other words, is there anyone you need to confront and share how you feel? Are there steps you can create to move forward?
For an example if this experience is connected to your work aspect is there any steps you can create to change or improve the situation? And if so what are they?
It’s really important to take action because if we don’t take action we stay in a disempowered space and if action can’t be taken yet have a plan that you can commit to when the time is right but it must be followers through to shift the energy.
The Devil card supports us to explore and make us aware of the feelings and beliefs we hold onto which disempower who we are. It’s an important process one we all should explore as often as possible.
If you still have trouble and not sure where to begin, begin with meditating on The Devil card.
Hold the symbol of The Devil card in your minds eye and place the card on your lap when you meditate.
See what feelings emerge from your meditation and begin with the questioning process above.
I will write a separate post sometime soon on exploring The Devil card for now I hope this helps with the current energies. Xxx
